Video appears to show children in the Mariupol steelworks tunnel

A video released by Ukraine’s Azov regiment shows civilians, many of them children, sheltering next to soldiers, inside the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol.

The metalwork became one of the last sites of resistance against the Russians in Mariupol.

The video – believed to have been taken on April 21 – has yet to be verified by the BBC.

The Azov Regiment was originally a far-right group that was later incorporated into the Ukrainian National Guard.

The video purportedly shows fighters carrying food and other aid to women and children sheltering in one of the underground bunkers.

In the footage, children are interviewed and can be heard saying they are running out of food and water, and begging to be evacuated from the besieged southern city.

Some of those filmed said they had been trapped underground for weeks.
