Video: Youtuber runs the final Burn-In OLED Switch test, turning it back on for over “1800 hours straight”

When it was revealed Nintendo’s latest hardware revision for the Switch would feature an OLED display, immediate concern was raised about the possibility of screen burnout.

Although this type of display has been around for quite some time since the days of the PlayStation Vita, the risk of a machine fire is still evident. Fortunately, since the launch of the Switch OLED model, we haven’t really heard of any horror stories, so is it really something to worry about?

Youtubers’Wulff Den‘ left its own OLED model in place for more than 1800 hours straight to see what would happen. Test used static in-game screenshots from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Hori SplitPad to keep the system’s display active. So, what are the results? It looks like you can barely tell the difference:

“There’s no difference in any of the color tests I’ve done, you might as well notice no noticeable burn after almost 2000 hours. The only difference. what you can see is the white on the ceiling of the church, it’s a little bit dimmer, and the bluish white has a bit of green.”

“…If you’re worried about OLED burn-in on the Switch because you have over 2000 hours in a game, I think you can relax a bit. I don’t think that’s a practical concern for you. anyone I think maybe in about 10 years we might see the HOME screen in light burn out on a display unit somewhere, but for the most part, you have nothing to worry about. quiet.”

Wulff Den intends to leave the OLED mock-up to see what happens in the end, but for now, after almost 2000 hours, it seems to be working fine. How does your own OLED model work? Let us know below.
