VinFast lowers the price of VF 8, increases the distance, may not change anything

New electric carmaker VinFast is spending January trying to find its footing in the rapidly changing U.S. market, some of the wobbles of their own making. After bringing back the first batch of VF8 cross to the West Coast in December, the placeholder has been notified every unit on cargo ship is something never seen before “limited release” variant called City Edition dedicated “only for pioneer customers of VinFirst.” In a letter to expectant shoppers, VinFast says the City Edition comes with a 179-mile range instead of the 260-mile or 277-mile range as promised last April. Not only that, the car manufacturer delay its battery registration program that would cost $169 per month for the VF 8 and give customers unlimited mileage. The new price for the VF8 is $56,700 for the City Edition Eco, the City Edition Plus starts at $63,700, and the base VF 8 Eco starts at $60,200 whenever it arrives. All those prices include a $1,200 destination fee. Only for California lease Program starts at $519 a month.

afterward Tesla lost a lot of money price of 3 . sample and Model Ysend some competitive EV companies back calculator, Vinfast one of them. The retail site now states “a special sale VF 8 City Edition for the US market” $6,500 off both prices. VF 8 City Edition Eco MSRP $50,200, City Edition Plus MSRP $57,200. On top of that, the site says, “Customers will receive an additional $3,000 off MSRP directly.” Assuming a final price of $47,200 and $54,200 before options, the City Edition is still above, but much closer to the original price announced last April of $41,200 for the VF 8. Eco and $49,200 for the VF 8 Plus.

The range has also increased, but it is still lacking. VinFast says an OTA update this month will increase the scope, the new City Edition is now advertised as approximately 207 miles on a single charge instead of 179 or 180. Yeah, that’s a good improvement. However, the number is still far behind 260 miles and 277 miles respectively, the VF 8 Eco and Plus that VinFast mentioned in April last year when this crossover model is having a lower selling price.

The Tesla Model Y Dual Motor starts at $54,880 and goes 330 miles on a single charge. This figure is $7,680 higher than VinFast VF 8 City Edition Eco, $680 higher than VF 8 City Edition Plus. Currently, through March of this year, the Model Y is eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. Get the full amount will make Tesla just $180 more than the base City version and a lot less than the premium City Edition Pro. Last year, VinFast said certain customers it’s possible to get the tax credit anyway, but it’s unclear if that still happens; Our prediction is that the tax credit provision is the source of the new discount, applied to all customers instead of a small group. However, we don’t know what the new pricing means for Tesla shoppers. VinFast’s Reddit boards were already full of pre-bookers discussing how to get away with buying the bait-like thing and switch in City Edition, and now they’re flooded with comments saying they’ve swapped reservations VF 8 to get the Model Y.

Electric vehicle manufacturers, such as Rome, are not built overnight — even Tesla takes years to become *Tesla.* We are sure that the teams at VinFast’s New Unified North American Headquarters is bracing for a couple of stormy years, all of which are surmountable if the company stops punching holes in its own boat.
