Volleyball Eliminates SAM HOUSTON STATE, 3-2, THURSDAY FOR EVOLUTION IN ARIZONA
MESA, Ariz. – The Sacramento State baseball team lives to see another day.
The Hornets scored singles runs in the second to fourth innings and four combined pitchers to keep Sam Houston State with four composite shots of the day as Sacramento State prevented elimination with a 3-2 win over Bearkats on Friday morning on day two of the Western Athletics Conference Tournament at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz.
Having knocked the top-seeded team out of the WAC Southwest Series, the Hornets have improved to 31-25 overall for the season and will face New Mexico State or a rematch against UT Rio Grande Valley on Friday (27). May) at 9 a.m. A wins that game and Sacramento State moves forward to face Aggies or Vaqueros at 4 p.m. on the day.

Freshman on the right Hunter Colin (5-4) claimed the third win of the most appearances on Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits while hitting a pair in five working innings. He’s posted a 2.51 ERA in his last three starts, including wins over Utah Valley (May 14) and San Jose State (May 21), going 13 games with just three passes. set and surrendered 11 times in his final 14.1 innings.
Kevin Haynes throw a third of the innings in the sixth round before giving way to Trey Goodrichwho excellently drew Sam Houston State unsuccessfully for the next 2.2 innings, creating a doubles match that ended the half with two goals late in the sixth round and regained all seven players he had to face in the seventh and eighth frames.

It was the longest start of the season for Goodrich, who has won each of his last two appearances against the Wolverines (May 15) and Sparta (5/19), and was not allowed to run in the last 8 matches. Work innings count from the final round of the sixth round at Dixie State on April 23.
Children on the right Jack Zalasky then took over for the ninth goal and netted his 11th save of the season with a flyover and a header off the ground to secure the win.
Zalasky’s 11 saves rank second on the school’s single-season roster alongside Mike Frame (1989) and Tyler Beardsley (2016), second only to record holder Sutter McLoughlin and his 17 saves in 2013. With 15 saves in his career, Zalasky is now taking over the sole fifth place on the school’s career list, behind only Tanner Dalton (2018-19) and Michael Penbera (1999-01). in third place.
Like they did in Wednesday’s tournament opener, the Hornets hit first again on Thursday, using three singles two in a row to break the seal. Josh Walker led with a single and moved to second on Dylan McPhillips‘infield hit to put two in for Josh Rollingwho dropped a shot of his own into the center left area to lead 1-0.

Sacramento State made it 2-0 in the third half on a 439-metre home field from across the video board in the left side of the field. Martin Vincelli-Simard – his fifth of the year – and won his third thanks to a McPhillips single to score Nick Iwasa in Wednesday.

Sam Houston State completed two fourth innings home runs on a sacrificial fly and a wild throw, but that will be for the Bearkats, who only managed three baserunners for the rest of the run thanks to one single shot in the fifth inning and one hit and walked in sixth, trapping two of those three in scoring.
Doyle, Iwasa and McPhillips all finished with two hits of the day, while eight of the ninth Hornet starters recorded at least one. It’s Iwasa’s 12th hit game of the year, Doyle’s 10th, and McPhillips’ seventh game.
