Volunteer firefighters help rescue a missing horse stuck deep in the mud in Millstone Township, New Jersey

MILLSTONE TOWNSHIP, New Jersey (WABC) – New Jersey first responders have arrived to rescue a horse that has been missing from a farm in Millstone Township since Friday afternoon.

A hunter found the horse deep in the woods and stuck deep in the mud on Sunday morning.

Officials said that due to the mud and terrain, there was no way any heavy equipment could be brought into the forest to aid in the rescue.

Members of the Millstone Volunteers FD and Jackson Fire-Station 56, the horse’s owner, horse trainers and a veterinarian worked hard using shovels, axes, straps, and rigs. to free the horse from the mud.

After the horse is able to stand on its own, a stable path must be created through the forest using heavy rubber mats all over the exit to keep the horse from sinking back into the mud.

The horse was taken to safety and transported for further care.
