Walmart removes ice cream on June 13 after facing social media backlash
As June 13 rapidly approaches, many large corporations are looking for ways to be included in the celebration. Over the weekend, a photo of Walmart’s new holiday ice cream started going viral, and you’ll know that people didn’t hesitate to share their thoughts on Walmart’s move.
Based on Fox 11After reviewing the thoughts of those online, the company issued an official apology and said it would remove “items where appropriate.”
They said in their full statement,
“June tenth marks a celebration of freedom and independence. However, we have received feedback that certain items caused concern for some of our customers, and we sincerely apologize. We are reviewing our classification and will remove items as appropriate. “
Red velvet ice cream is not a new concept; however, Walmart is supposed to work with a Black brand if they’re going to do something June 13 (that and pay their employees a living wage, but ANYWHERE)

As before reported last June, Chairman Joe Biden officially signed into law a bill declaring June 19 as National Independence Day. At the time of the signing, Biden said,
“By making June 13 a federal holiday, all Americans can feel the power of this day and learn from our history — while celebrating progress and struggling with how far we have come (and) how far we must go.”
Walmart is not the first major corporation to face backlash after trying to incorporate June 13 into its brand.
Last year, Ikea faced backlash after having a sixteenth day menu assembled at one of their Atlanta locations. The company faced backlash when the menu included dishes like fried chicken and watermelon. A company spokesperson later issued an apology and added, “We are committed to educating ourselves and putting in place a process that will allow us to thoughtfully honor June 16 in the future.” future.”
