Wanda Sykes Hammers Facebook on ‘Daily Show’ for Taking Trump Back
Comedian Wanda Sykes opened his final episode as guest of Daily program Thursday night with the “big political news” Facebook and Instagram are set to welcome Donald Trump back on their social media platforms following a two-year ban following the January 6, 2021 uprising.
As the live audience booed in protest, Sykes said: “I mean, allowing Trump back on Facebook is crazy. You’re just asking for trouble! It’s like letting Hannibal Lecter look after your best baby.”
In a statement announcing the move, Facebook’s parent company Meta stated that “the public will be able to hear what politicians are saying.” But Sykes has other opinions on what led to the controversial decision.
“Look, we all know Facebook is losing a lot of money and they want Trump’s attention back,” she said. “They need a hit. Trump is theirs White Lotus. He’s the Internet’s Jennifer Coolidge.”
Sykes suggested that for the first week, platforms should only allow Trump to post cat photos. “Let’s see how it goes,” she said. “And if you see a pack of cats storming the Capitol—cute though it is—close the door.”
