Colton Underwood is telling his story in Coming soon Colton, the Netflix series documenting his experience is coming soon.

In the trailer for the reality series, the former star of Bachelor is shown in live interviews that take the cameras behind the scenes of his public journey to identification as a gay man. The six-episode, 30-minute series will release on Friday.

“I don’t want to be gay, and the main voices in my head just say to me, ‘You’re going to get through this, you’re going to get through this,” he says at one point in the footage. On another side, he explained, “The reason I’m leaving is because I’m embarrassed and I’m sad about what got me into this position in the first place.”

Underwood came out as gay in an emotional April interview with Robin Roberts for ABC’s Good Morning America. That same day, it was reported that Underwood would return to the reality television genre to document his life openly as a gay man. The movie started shooting before GMA interview.

The first look at the series, on Monday, introduced Underwood as the reality star, athlete and Christian he has come to be known for in his public life. At one point, he confessed that he never thought he would reveal: “I think I’m going to die with this secret.” Netflix Diary for this series says former professional soccer player and Bachelor the star “engaged in a journey of self-discovery as a gay man, including dealing with her past and asserting her place in the LGBTQ community.”

In a recent interview with New York TimesUnderwood, who is also an executive producer, shares his goals with the series: “I have lived my life openly, and I run from a community to which I have belonged my whole life. life. I know a lot of people won’t understand. Maybe by the end of these six episodes, people still don’t understand. But at least I tried to undo the wrong thing.”

Before going public, Underwood was a memorable three-time star on ABC’s hit Bachelor Franchising. He made his debut in 2018 Bachelorette and then the summer spinoff series Bachelor in Paradise before continuing to lead her own Bachelor season in 2019. Underwood, who went public as a virgin during the run of the franchise, has left her season in a relationship with winner Cassie Randolph.

But the pair apparently split in 2020. Randolph filed a restraining order against Underwood for alleged harassment and stalking, which she later dropped. According to the police report, Randolph testified that Underwood had placed a tracking device in her car. “The two of us were able to reach a separate agreement to address any concerns Cassie had,” Underwood said in a statement at the time.

Underwood’s television interview when it debuted was met with mixed reactions from the LGBTQ community. An online petition has also gone viral asking Netflix to cancel the series due to Randolph’s allegations. In the trailer, Underwood speaks of the ban for the first time: “I put a poor girl through the hell of her own insecurities,” he said.

The trailer also shows Underwood coming to see his father and the others in his life, and making his way in his worlds of religion and football as a gay man. “I don’t know what to do with my hands. Am I looking at someone for too long? ” Underwood, who was called “gay in training,” admits there are both fun and emotional moments in the trailer. “Blow all expectations of what you have to do and just be you,” Olympian skier Gus Kenworthy, a standout star of the season that appeared in 2015, told him.

“Since confronting it, this is the best thing I’ve ever felt,” said Underwood, who is now dating political strategist Jordan C. Brown.
