Yetunde, the eldest of three daughters from Oracene’s first marriage and mother of three, was shot dead in Compton in 2003 when she was 31 years old. Venus and Serena opened the Yetunde Price Resource Center, a safe haven for at-risk youth and victims. suffered an injury in Compton, in 2016, and athletes have shared that seeing her has been brought to life by Mikayla King Richard was a very emotional experience.

“I can’t get it out of my mind,” she said TIME about the apparent influence of the news on her game. Serena further explained, “No matter what, my sister won’t come back for good behavior. It’s not fair that she will never get a chance to hug me. But also… the Bible says. about forgiveness. I’m not there yet. I want to practice what I preach and teach [my daughter] So did that Olympia. I want to forgive. I have to go there. I’ll be there.”
Furthermore, “it’s hard because all I think about are her kids, and how much they mean to me. And how much I love them.”
