Waymo adds Zeekr-built electric trucks to autonomous test fleet

Waymo just revealed a new truck they plan to introduce its fleet a day. It was built in collaboration with Zeekr, a brand under Geely Empire.

First impressions of the exterior were good, as we immediately had VW ID.Buzz vibe from its friendly shape and proportions. This Waymo The Zeekr van is planned to be all-electric, but any specs regarding range or capacity were not available as of today.

Instead of driver-focused specs, Waymo and Zeekr provided detailed information and a brief look at the interior. After all, the whole point of a van is to ride in it, not drive it. You’ll notice that there are two sliding doors that open facing each other, revealing a post-free entry for easy loading and unloading. The floor is completely flat for maximum convenience. Its van-like proportions allow for plenty of legroom and headroom, and the seat can also be adjusted to your preference. Passenger amenities include a multitude of ports for charging and screens for clicking where you want to go.

Zeekr says the car has been designed as a driver-centric vehicle from the start, but it will still offer two cabin options. One will include a traditional steering wheel and pedals, while the other will not. No timetable has been provided for when the driver-free version will be available.

There’s no timeline for anything truck-related other than “in the coming years.” Zeekr will develop the truck at its R&D facility in Gothenburg, Sweden, then Waymo will deliver in the US and install “Waymo Driver” technology on it, so the truck can drive autonomously. Basically, don’t expect these to be around the country anytime soon.
