We found out how Disney’s Star Wars hotel fits into the classics

Disney World Resorts’ Star Wars hotel experience, called the Galactic Starcruiser, officially opens on March 1. Guests are booked for a two-night stay at the site they’re joining. a novel live theatrical performance that allows them to choose either First Order support or Resistance. According to Lucasfilm, the story itself is canon – an interlude to the sequel trilogy – and is the general plot of Star Wars.

Like Disneyland’s Star Wars section, Star Wars: Galaxy’s EdgeGalactic Starcruiser has its own story, stories that repeat Groundhog’s Day-Style every time a new group of passengers gets on board. According to Matt Martin of Lucasfilm, the franchise’s senior creative director of story and content, that has allowed his team to fill some gaps in the larger timeline – and even expand it. into new fields, such as fiction.

Much of that lore applies to events that took place on the planet Batuu, the setting for Galaxy’s Edge. That makes Starcruiser the key to more narrative content inside the theme park.

“Since we were working on Galaxy’s Edge and Starcruiser around the same time,” Martins told Polygon, “we were able to plant story themes in Galaxy’s Edge that could be effective.” [on the Starcruiser]. So as a passenger, you’re going to use your own transportation to get to Batuu, and even if you’ve been to Batuu before, it really re-documents a lot of things. ”

[Ed. note: What follows will spoil key narrative events that take place at Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser.]

For example, one of the highlights of a trip to Batuu was meeting Chewbacca, who roams around the park and interacts with guests and often keeps a profile. In the classic novel, he is there to meet Vi Moradi, Princess Leia Organa’s top spy, who was looking for a new base of operations for the Resistance. As it turns out, the reason Chewbacca was in Batuu in the first place was because the guests aboard the Starcruiser – with the help of Captain Riyola Keevan – answered a distress call and rescued him from inside a ship. Escape.

Some props and mounts on Galaxy’s Edge also add context. Recall that Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run ride, allowing guests to embrace Han Solo’s pride and joy, asks you to steal some potent coax fuel from the First Order. At least some of that fuel will return to the Starcruiser to reach Gaya, entertainer Twi’lek is holding trial there. The TIE Echelon parked in the First Order area of Galaxy’s Edge also appears in the Starcruiser storyline. Guests will help control the ship, which includes miniature hyperspace tracking technology of the kind found in The Last Jediand help smuggle it for agents of the Resistance.

Galactic Starcruiser also contains a live stream connecting the two sequels.

When Luke Skywalker burned the Jedi at the end Last Jedi, he thinks he is destroying all that remains of the written history of the Jedi order. But in the final moments of that movie, we see that Rey smuggled at least some of that material onto the Falcon. One piece of that collection, however, was missing: Yoda’s own holocron, a high-tech archive of his teachings. That object somehow made it onto the Starcruiser, where guests would open it with Rey’s help, then eventually take it off the ship and into the hands of the waiting Resistance.

But Disney and Lucasfilm don’t stop there. They built their own ship, Halcyon, 275 years old. That means it dates back to the time of the Supreme Republic, placing it neatly in the middle Lucasfilm’s latest report. The ship itself is a kind of bridge, connecting the history of Star Wars back in time through novels, comics, etc. Visitors can learn about that history by interrogating a droid whose name D3-09. She appears onscreen as an Alexa-like artificial intelligence embedded inside every conference room.

“She was there the whole time,” Martins said. “So [the Halcyon] has a long past and we needed to be on the side of the story to develop that past. And because it’s Star Wars, we actually have a vehicle to tell some of those stories, too. So we were able to put it in books and comics and do an entire manga series based on Halcyonit’s just a nice byproduct of working on Star Wars. ”

Finally, last month it was announced that Halcyon is also playing a role in connecting the original trilogy with the sequel. Star Wars: The Princess and the Scoundrela new novel by Beth Revis, which will tell the story of the honeymoon of Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa on the ship.

“Facing their most desperate hour,” reads Official description at Penguin Random House, “The Empire’s soldiers have scattered across the galaxy, retreating to isolated worlds vulnerable to their influence. Like Halcyon Traveling from world to world, one thing becomes clear: The war is not over yet. But as danger draws nearer, Han and Leia find that they fight their best battles not just alone but as husband and wife. “

Star Wars: The Princess and the Scoundrel To be Available for pre-order and will be published August 16. Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is currently on pre-order, with rides starting at about $5,000 for a family of four. You can read more in our review.
