“Weird Al” Yankovic on casting Daniel Radcliffe in his biopic – The Hollywood Reporter
“Weird Al” Yankovic and Daniel Radcliffe are big fans of each other.
While promoting his new bio, Strange: The Story of Al YankovicThe award-winning artist was candid about why he wanted to hire Harry Potter actor who plays him, says he has “the right energy for it.”
“I am a huge fan of Dan’s. He did great dramatic acting and great comedic acting, and he got there,” Yankovic said. The Hollywood Reporter. “I mean, I know that he’s a big fan of comedy. He’s a huge bookworm, just like I am, and I know he’s going to really capture the tone we’re aiming for in this movie, which is very important. ”
It doesn’t matter to Yankovic that Radcliffe is not a “physically correct faker” because the film is meant to be a parody of biological works and more importantly, the star can capture that rather than looking exactly like the main character.
“I just thought he would really be able to capture the spirit of the character that we wrote for the movie,” he said.
Radcliffe didn’t notice Strange: The Story of Al Yankovic was supposed to be a parody until he started reading the script. When he first started accepting, he wasn’t sure why he was asked to read for the role.
“I’ve been a huge ‘Weird Al’ fan, and I’m confused why they asked me to play him in a movie of his life because I said, ‘I look doesn’t look like him at all,'” Radcliffe said to CHEAP. “But then I read it, and I said, ‘Oh, that’s right. It’s good now. We don’t do that. We’re doing something different, and it doesn’t matter. ‘”
However, it didn’t take long for him to realize that there was nothing more than a biopic “Weird Al” but a parody of the biography.
“Seeing that and seeing how well they wanted to take that joke, and then talk to them and say, ‘Yeah, Eric Appel is adorable. Al seems lovely,” said Radcliffe. “You just want to make a movie with these people.”
