Werewolf by Night was just announced with a trailer at Disney’s D23 Expo. Marvel Studios has announced the first trailer for the upcoming Disney+ Halloween special, starring Gael García Bernal and Laura Donnelly in the lead roles. Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino is set to direct the classic horror mystery, serving as a newcomer to Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Development on the special vehicle began in August 2021, with Giacchino joining the project in March, earlier this year. Werewolf by Night releases October 7, exclusively on Disney + Hotstar.
The trailer for Werewolf by Night follows an aesthetic reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock’s films, with a noir-ish tone and powerful violin notes. Halloween in particular will be presented in full monochrome, with an age-old sound design that can often culminate in conversation sequences. A hunt for hunters begins in the Werewolf by Night trailer when Verusa delivers the thrill ride to attendees at a social gathering. “Tonight, everyone is a hunter to themselves,” she announced. “But, one of you is a monster. Dress up as one of ours. She is of course referring to Jack Russell (Bernal), the wild hybrid that turns into a veritable monster at dusk.
In classic Hitchcockian style, the Werewolf by Night trailer cuts through the middle of several action sequences, as the caged monster attacks viewers, slamming their faces and sucking every ounce of blood. Interestingly, the werewolf isn’t the only predator here, as his impersonation of Death slowly stalks him, making him pay for his crimes. The prosthetics also appear to be handmade, which adds to the vintage aesthetic.
Not like the others MCU This particular, attribute seems heavy on gore, with the key takeaways being beheadings and plenty of blood, albeit in a black and white format. Another interesting thing to notice is that the digitally added cigarette burns in the top right corner, which usually indicates that the film reel is being replaced. Marvel Studios also revealed an official poster for the same thing, which you can check out at the end of this article.
Werewolf by Night premieres October 7, exclusively on Disney + Hotstar. Currently, there is no information about its runtime.
