Wes Anderson Wears The Same Suit Every Summer (And You Should Too)

Wes Anderson likes to stay in his garage. Critics are his latest call, Asteroid City, which premiered at Cannes yesterday, “the epitome of a Wes Anderson film”—expect thoughtful dialogue, symmetrical setting, and lots of pastels. In other words, your mileage may vary, depending on how you feel about his last 10 attempts.

When it comes to him wardrobeHowever, it is hard to find his fault in committing to what works. Example: If the weather is anywhere above 60 degrees, you’ll practically see Wes Anderson in a plaid suit. He wears one to get profile by New York Magazine in 2007. He wore one to promote Moon Kingdom in 2012. He wore one, with the sleeves rolled up, to ride Citibike in 2015. He wore one to the Rome film festival in 2019, and then again to another Prada . fashion show at the end of that year. And, most notably, he continues to wear them at Cannes—for the first time in 2021, on happy fashion red carpet for French Dispatchand now this year too, for Asteroid City.

Anderson’s fondness for seersucker is not too hard to understand. He looks Damned in tools. It’s the summer equivalent of velvet clothes he likes it in the fall and winter: stylish and professional, fit enough for long days on set, decent enough for long nights at fancy parties. The Seersucker is incredibly lightweight and breathable, which is why it’s been loved by Southern attorneys and Kentucky Derby attendees for generations, and it’s easy to dress or dress up as you like. At Cannes yesterday, Anderson set himself apart by pairing his classic blue and white shirt number with a tie-free white shirt. linen shirtglittery gold socks and a pair of stealth assets Loro Piana Lazy shoes.

At Cannes 2021, with the cast French DispatchAnderson rocked the same suit in the menswear-iest photo of the year.

Best of all? Seersucker is extremely affordable. J.Crew’s versatile version, eerily similar to Anderson’s version, is only $376—a ridiculous bargain if you consider all the ways you can and should wear it in season. this summer (and every summer after): with a shirt and tie at your friend’s house wedding ceremony; with one knit polo shirt and the nuances of your parents-in-law’s garden party; with a tank And Sandal on a date night by the beach. And you should probably wear it to see Asteroid City when it hits theaters next month, just to thank Anderson for introducing you to your new, championship warm-weather ensemble.
