West High freshman hits a hole in his first high school golf encounter

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Jack Jensen-Fitzpatrick, freshman Jack Jensen-Fitzpatrick, freshman Iowa City West, golfing at his first high school at Airport National got off to a bad start shall.

“Not ideal,” is how Jensen-Fitzpatrick describes it. “I will take it but I want to do better. Then I went ahead and hit a great shot.”

“A great shot” is an understatement. Jack bounced the ball on the 21st hole 233 yards par four, and hit a perfect shot.

Jensen-Fitzpatrick said: “I actually said to the friend I was playing with, ‘watch me punch this one hole’. “I really didn’t see it when we went up to the green.”

He brilliantly won the trump card in his first high school golf game.

“I saw it in the hole and I couldn’t do it. I shouted and I think everyone heard. I thought I was dreaming.”

The odds of getting a hole in one on a par four are pretty rare.

“We looked at it and the PGA said it was one and six million and only one PGA professional had ever done it,” Jensen-Fitzpatrick said. “This is a shorter hole but I would say I had luck on my side.”

So, how to celebrate after you hit a hole in your high school first meeting.

“We bought root beers for this and that team,” he said. “It will be a day I will never forget.”
