GREEN FIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) – Pualine “Polly” Welch of Lewisburg, W.Va celebrated another important birthday with friends and family today.
Born on January 6, 1917, Polly experienced World Wars I and II, the Spanish flu, various presidential terms, and many other major events. Today, she celebrates another important milestone.
Surrounded by friends and family, Polly celebrated her 105th birthday. Betty, Pollys’ daughter, said: ‘She has a special cake because she collected frogs many years ago and it has little frogs and a nice little cake. We are so excited that she lived during this time. “
Betty also tells us that her mom has special clothes for her birthday each year. She wore a birthday shirt, this year her shirt reading “105 by his wonderful grace” which Betty said matches her mother’s favorite song “Amazing Grace”. “.
Betty said her mother talks about her life and how she was born near Quinwood and is the middle child in the family of 6. Polly grew up on a farm in a house her family built, she even talked about how it was with indoor plumbing.
When she started to venture out, she decided she wanted to start a family of her own. Betty says that for her mother, family has always been her foundation. Over the years, the Polly family has grown, with 2 children, 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Before ending our Facetime call, Polly received a special birthday surprise from Senator Joe Manchin; “Hello! I’m U.S. Senator Joe Manchin, and on behalf of all the citizens of the mountain state, I wanted to wish Miss Pauline, but as everyone knows you, Polly Welch of Lewisburg a very happy tenth birthday. 105 have fun Polly, as all of your family and friends honor you, I know this is going to be a most memorable occasion.”
