What are the biggest food trends in 2023?

What trendy things will we be eating and drinking next year? Predictions for the top 10 food and beverage trends for 2023 were revealed recently by review site Yelp.

According to the popular platform for community-based reviews and social networking for businesses, the top 10 reflects millions of keyword, phrase and business searches between 2021 and 2022.

Searches for michelagua, a non-alcoholic alternative to the popular Mexican drink michelada, increased 62% last year, with Yelp users searching for a variety of flavors.

Also on Yelp’s list are slushies. Searches for frozen drinks have grown 77% in 2022, suggesting that alcoholic frozen drinks will be at the top of customer orders by 2023, according to the website.

Dirty soda, another anticipated popular beverage, was also included on Yelp’s list for 2023. Searches for this drink – the combination of soda, cream and syrups flavored up up to 40%.

The Suprême dessert, made by Lafayette Grand and Café & Bakery in NoHo, is a non-alcoholic beverage that also made the top 10 of Yelp with a 13% increase in searches.

Another popular beverage predicted by Yelp is tea made from hojicha, a plant used to make a variety of sweet, lightly roasted Japanese green teas. Searches for hojicha tea are up to 38%.

When it comes to having fun and enjoying more than just your food, underwater restaurant searches increased by 263% and dinner theater searches by 109%.

The classic comfort food pickle has gone from side dish to main course, with searches growing 55% by 2022. Yelp says their team thinks pickle flavors will emerge across the land water, in dishes from pickle martinis to pickle ice cream, and everything in between.

The meaty oxtail was searched for 45% last year, suggesting its popularity will continue into 2023.

Completing the top 10 trends predicted by Yelp is a nostalgic fast food. McRib searches are on the rise with an increase of nearly 90%, suggesting that the use of classic snacks by chefs and home cooks could become popular in the new year.
