Can anyone debunk Aaron Rodgers as MVP? Once again the Packers are number 1 in NFC and once again they have overtaken NFC North. After their disastrous Week 1, the Packers racked up seven straight wins before Rodgers missed a game due to a COVID-19 contract. After a quick defeat to the Chiefs in a 13-7 effort, they beat the Seattle Seahawks last week and damaged Russell Wilson’s return to the team by pushing defensively 17-0.
The Vikings continued their frenzied contradiction. After losing to a Cowboy team without Dak Prescott and losing to Raven in extra time, they beat the Chargers 27-20. Another year, they feel like the best of the worst, a 4-5 seems to be much better than their record. Kirk Cousins was excellent against the Chargers, completing 25 of 37 passes for 294 yards, two touchdowns and no pick. Dalvin Cook had a heavy workload, with 24 finishes in 94 yards, and Justin Jefferson had a superb 143 yards, the third-highest total of his career.
The Vikings have the strength to keep up with any team in the league, but this Packers is winning on both defense and offense. They are fourth in the league in terms of revenue disparity, fifth in pass points and third in allowable points. Joe Barry has made a big contribution to improvement, and the Packers look like a more complete team than they’ve had in a long time.
Of all the teams in the NFC North, the Vikings usually cause the most trouble for the Packers. Green Bay may need Rodgers more than they did last week in a crunch win over the Seahawks, but in the end, it could be down to which of these teams gets the ball last. That hasn’t always been in the Vikings’ favor, but in these divisive matches, Mike Zimmer strives to bring something different in every match.
