Reaction to Women’s ‘Pregnant Nose’ Story: ‘My Bloodline Fasho Stopped With Me’

As stories of women started going viral on social media, those without children shared their shock reactions. In fact, some say they’re afraid of how swollen their noses are, and others claim the “pregnant nose” is a “form of birth control.”

Check out how some people handle the news below.

So, what causes some pregnant women’s noses to swell?

According to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, rhinitis during pregnancy affects about 20% of pregnant women. In addition to feeling congested, tissue can swell and make the nose appear wider, AND

“During pregnancy, the body produces more blood and fluid, which can cause swelling, even in unwanted places like the nasal passages. The blood vessels in the nose can swell with this extra volume, causing nasal congestion.

Other factors may include higher estrogen levels, as well as the production of human growth hormone (HGH).

Additionally, Dr. Shannon M. Clark of the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston says NBC News that — although rhinitis is harmless and common — people should notify their healthcare provider if widespread swelling is accompanied by blurred vision or headaches, as “those are all signs of preeclampsia”.

“Preeclampsia in pregnancy is a complex disease that requires accurate monitoring and diagnosis.”

What are your thoughts on the overall conversation and do you have any first-hand experience with “nose during pregnancy?”
