WhatsApp may soon allow users to ‘mass activate’ the disappearing message option for chats
WhatsApp recently started an extended time limit test for the ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature and now it looks like the company is planning to offer the ability to select multiple chats and enable disappearing messages for surname.
For those unaware, WhatsApp now allows users to enable the disappearing message option for individual chats. This means that to enable disappearing messages for multiple chats, users need to open each chat one by one and enable them.
WABetaInfo has reported that the company has begun testing the ability to select chats and allow messages to disappear for them at the same time. The feature, reportedly, is currently being rolled out through a WhatsApp Beta update to version 2.22.16.8 through the Google Play Beta Program.
What does this mean for users?
For starters, this feature will make it easier and faster to enable or disable the disappearing message options for multiple chats. In addition, it will also save time.
How the feature works
According to the screenshot posted by WABetaInfo, the new feature will be integrated in the Disappearing Messages option. Users will be able to find it as an additional link in the section that says “Apply this message time to existing chats by selecting them.
We’re assuming that tapping that link opens a list of all active chats or groups, and users can simply tap them to turn on the message timer. One thing to note here is that the user will not have the option to set another timer for different chats in this case.
