Chalamet was in town for fashion week, drawing crowds of fans to the venue where Haider Ackermann was presenting a couture collection he designed as a guest for Jean Paul Gaultier. Astute fashion observers and/or Timothée Chalamet will know that Chalamet, an American actor who grew up speaking French, and Ackermann, a Colombian designer who grew up in France, are great friends. More than that, they’re like you. And now seems like the best time to take a closer look at their friendship.
Indeed, Chalamet, 27, is the younger brother of Ackermann’s older brother. Based on a year 2019 fashion magazine interview with the designer, the pair first met through the actor’s agent, Brian Swardstrom, who was contacted when Timmy was preparing his first large rugs for Call me by your name 2017; Ackermann, who was designing for Italian designer Berluti at the time, matched him with a grape-purple suede jacket for the film’s premiere in Berlin. About a year later, Chalamet hugged Ackermann backstage at his menswear show Berluti in Paris, and posed for pictures with legendary French actress and designer Isabelle Huppert. Not long after, he attended his first Academy Awards ceremony (as a Best Actor nominee for Call me by your name, nothing more, nothing less) wears a white suit designed by Ackermann. “He was the young man among all those massive actors. While establishing herself as one of Hollywood’s biggest and most fashion-savvy stars, Chalamet frequently looks to her big brother’s sexy, precise tailoring.
