When Kids ‘Used to Carry Guns’ There Were No School Shootings
One Newsmax the presenter seemed to suggest on Friday that recent school shootings as a result of students not bringing guns to class, saying that when children did so decades ago there were “no mass shootings” and “no problems”.
Carl Higbie, in an interview with Congressman Greg Steube (R-FL) focusing on the assault weapons ban that go through the house earlier in the day, showed a clip of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) criticizing the methods “some completely irresponsible people” use to train their young children how to use gun. Higbie was offended by her comment.
“I can say that it was about a hundred years ago, so-called toddlers and these 8, 9, 10 year olds used to bring guns to school as a completely normal thing in many places. regions of the country – and perhaps even more recently than a hundred years ago. No mass shootings at school, no problem,” Higbie stated unequivocally, and Steube agreed.
Higbie, who worked for Super PACs supporting Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, also bragged that he taught his 9-year-old how to use the AR-15.
“Do you think guns, as Nancy Pelosi said, are really the problem?” asked the Iraq War veteran and Connecticut congressional candidate in 2014.
“Of course they don’t matter,” replied Steube, who, as a sign of his devotion to the Second Amendment, can’t help but show off his gun collection during a House Judiciary Committee hearing last month on gun reform.
Steube then compared guns to cars and cooking appliances.
“Should we ban cars because they kill people?” he asks. “Should we ban pressure cookers, Boston [Marathon] Bombers are used because they use those to kill people? No, it’s just tools and tools that terrorists, murderers and criminals use to carry out their crimes.”
