Since the overturning of PASPA, mobile sports betting has become legal in more than 30 states across America. In comparison, online casino gaming has only been legally available since 2013 and is still limited to a select number of U.S. states.

Analysts believe the market in this state has the potential to amass $500 million, which means there is a lot at stake for our region. This has sparked eagerness from local stakeholders who are determined to capitalize on this newfound opportunity.
Indiana
Two bills introduced in Indiana could pave the way for legalizing online gambling within the state. If these proposed bills are approved, Hoosiers will soon be able to revel in the thrill and pleasure of online casino games. Doug Gutwein and Ethan Manning, both Republicans, have proposed HB 1356 – a bill that would impose an 18% tax on adjusted gaming revenue. In an attempt to legalize online gaming in Indiana, Republican Alan Morrison filed HB 1337. This bill would impose a tax of 18% on all online gambling activities.
The House Committee on Public Policy will devote its energies to both bills, and they must successfully make it through the House of Representatives, Senate Assembly and ultimately Governor Eric Holcomb’s desk in order for them to be ratified into law. Although it is not a guarantee, Indiana’s introduction of iGaming legislation places them ahead of the curve compared to other states that may legalize online casinos in the near future but have yet to produce related bills.

Maryland
Since the 2020 referendum showed overwhelming support for sports betting expansion in Maryland, their online gambling industry has undergone a tremendous transformation. In accordance with the law, operators will be able to obtain up to 100 licenses for use, a majority of which are slated for online sports betting platforms. Under the new legal regulations, gambling companies will pay a 15% tax on their profits which will be used to finance educational projects across the state. Illinois

According to Syverson, a few land-based casinos will be constructed in the immediate future, and he assumes that it will take quite some time. Syverson further asserted that there might be a contentious discourse among casinos on the possible harmful effects of iCasino gaming on physical locations.
If a land-based casino refrains from launching an iCasino mobile app, could they be adversely affected by the growing popularity of online gaming? Nevertheless, if these casinos embraced digital technology and had their own apps ready to go on the market, this may even spur lawmakers into legalizing web-based gambling.
Syverson asserted that online casinos won’t be legalized in Illinois this year, but it could very well become a reality over the next few years. 2023 and beyond may bring greater chances of legalization for sure.
Florida
DraftKings and FanDuel, two of the nation’s biggest online gambling operators, are launching a new endeavor in Florida – “Sport and Event Betting Ballot Initiative”. Florida Education Champions, a political committee dedicated to improving education in Florida through tax revenue generated from gambling, is advocating for the legalization of online sports betting. Their goal is to make this form of gaming available and use it as an efficient source of funding for educational purposes.
This effort could potentially challenge the recent pact that Florida and the Seminole Tribe put in place, which gives them permission to offer both retail and online sports betting at their tribal casinos.
