Will Butler says he left Arcade Fire

Will Butler of Montreal-based rock group Arcade Fire says he’s left the band.

Butler said in a series of tweets that he left late last year when the group’s new album, “We,” which will be released on May 6, was complete.

Butler said there was “no serious reason” for his departure other than that “I’ve changed – and the band has changed – over the past 20 years or so.”

He added that it’s time for something new, and that the band “remains my friends and family.”

Arcade Fire was co-founded by Win, Butler’s brother and head, two decades ago, and has received numerous awards for its albums, including the 2011 Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

Will Butler said in his tweet that he is working on a new record, booking shows for this summer and working on the music for a David Adjmi play, among other projects.
