Union Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah said today in Bengal, said the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will be implemented as soon as Covid ceases, Union Home Affairs Minister , Mr. Amit Shah, said today in Bengal, making it clear that the controversial citizenship law is back on the Center’s agenda.

Speaking before a public rally in Siliguri, Amit Shah accused Bengali Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of “spreading rumors” that the new citizenship law would not be enforced.

“I went to North Bengal today. I want to make it clear that the Trinamool Congress is spreading rumors that the CAA will not be implemented. I would like to say that as soon as the Covid wave subsides, we will implement the CAA in the field. land,” said Amit Shah.

“The CAA has been a reality and it will remain a reality and there is nothing Trinamool can do about it,” the Home Secretary added.

The CAA was at the center of massive protests in many parts of the country in late 2019 and early 2020, months before the Covid outbreak prompted closures and other restrictions.

Mamata Banerjee reacted immediately to Amit Shah’s statement.

“This is their plan. Why don’t they bring the bill to Parliament? They won’t come in 2024, I’m telling you. We don’t want any civil rights affected. Solidarity is our strength. He came after a year. Har baar aate hain ganda baat karte hain (Every time they come they talk rubbish),” said the minister.
