Williamsburg football team honors fallen detective in season opener

WILLIAMSBURG, Ohio — The son of the fallen Clermont County sheriff led his father’s alma mater out of the tunnel and onto the field for the first game of the season Friday night.

Bill Brewer, former three-sport star at Williamsburg High School was killed while trying to aid for a man in stalemate in 2019. Now his name is on the back of every player’s shirt, his badge number is on every helmet and his memory is in the hearts of everyone in the community.

“It’s very important to us that you honor the members who deserve it – Bill is one of them,” said Williamsburg head coach Nick Ayers. “This is a very proud community. They’re proud of their police, their fire, their military. It’s unbelievable.”

Braxton Brewer went out with the team captains to flip a coin in the number 12 shirt – the number his father wore in the ’90s.

“(He’s a) legend, Hall of Fame, an unbelievable athlete… the guy who served his community,” Ayers said.

Williamsburg players Ayden and Trey Holden said their father worked with Brewer. Not only do they hope to honor Brewer with their uniforms, but also by their play.

Ayden Holden said: “Just play hard – show it all like he did.

Although it has been three years since his death, the team has made sure that no one forgets Brewer’s name and dedication to the community.

“When you can teach a life lesson for a whole week, not just 48 minutes of gameplay, and you can stack it, you impact more than anything that happens between the front lines,” said Ayers. speak.
