We wrote about some Mercedes gift from Omaze, our favorite so far is Eco-friendly Sprinter camping valve. This gift can take the top spot, as it is one of the recognizable, luxurious and manufacturable vehicles that Mercedes produces, G-Wagen.

The G 63 seats five, is powered by a twin-turbo four-liter V8 and makes 577 horsepower, not to mention 627 lb-ft of torque. Not to mention it is gorgeous. We recently had a G 63 and take it off-road, where it’s meant to be driven. Here’s what we said:

“The loose surface and steep hills are no match for the G, and we’ve never rubbed its belly or precariously positioned pipes on anything after that. We became worried that we weren’t pushing the G-spot hard enough to learn anything, which meant we would have to take some risks lest the outing wouldn’t work out. But then we remembered an important detail: This isn’t just a G-Wagen; it’s an AMG. Slow but sure? Rock crawling technique? Pfft. And that brought us to Holly Glen.

“Glen is located near the entrance to the park, and to put it simply, it’s a dirt track. It is not a fancy one. There are no start/end labels, nor any accommodation for spectators or officials or anything of that nature. Instead, it’s simply a one-way detour wide enough for a half-dozen dirt bikes or several 4x4s, long enough for “high speeds” over technical obstacles and hill climbs in elsewhere in the park, but neither straight nor flat enough to allow you to increase your speed where you may not be able to get out before the next jump or the corner. There are a few rules posted (don’t use ATVs, don’t go against traffic, that sort of thing) but nothing says “get your rich kid’s toy and come back.” In other words, perfect.

“With everything in the G 63’s dynamic selection set to ‘Stupid,’ we bombed around the course while viewers in Wranglers held up their phones, potentially hoping to catch a rich man stupid doing a stupid get rich on their stupid expensive SUV. Sorry to disappoint, blue Wrangler guy. Catching the air and generally having an absolute blast, the G 63 has to do exactly what it’s good at: converting gasoline into noise in the most enjoyable way possible.

“And when we say it’s good, right? The G 63 may look very rough for its price tag, but underneath its simple, boxy shape and squeaky door latch is a technologically advanced powertrain that can turn a few millimeters across. Hit the steering wheel and the pedals move into a spectacle of sound and sand flying. The “Trail” mode spins most nannies back considerably, and the rest of the safety spots lie dormant in the electronic periphery of the G until you do something particularly geeky.

“What exactly that might be, we can’t say. Despite taking off the hills wobble at almost completely locking with all four corners sending a giant cock’s tail 20 feet in the air, bringing all four wheels out of the ground and stirring so deep that it’s sandy. so loose that we felt it sweep along the belly of big G, we were never bothered by any of its many interwoven systems. And when we were done, we put 10 PSI back into each tire, flipped Dynamic Select back to its Comfort setting, and set off home with a new rattle, squeak or shimmy. It’s as if nothing ever happened.”
