The women’s circle hockey match between Canada and Russia has been postponed for more than an hour due to an apparent issue with COVID-19 protocol.

Both teams participated in the warm-up, but when the Russians returned to the field to introduce players, the Canadians were still in their locker rooms.

After circling the ice and sitting on the bench for 40 minutes, the Russian returned to the dressing room.

“Russia’s results from this morning are still inconclusive,” striker Natalie Spooner said after the game. “I know in the last few days they’ve had a few positives and we just want to make sure their results come back and we play safe.”

After about an hour, players from both countries and ice officials stepped onto the ice rink at Wukesong Sports Center with KN95 masks under their masks.

Team Canada wore masks throughout the match but the Russians and pros removed their masks in the third inning.

Canada won 6-1.
