Winter Olympics 2022: What Canada did on Wednesday

There was plenty of action overnight in Beijing but Team Canada couldn’t add to its medal tally on Tuesday, having missed the podium in competition early on day four of the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Here are some 2022 Winter Olympics events that you might have missed overnight on the 4th in Beijing.

Free big air

Megan Oldham of Canada just skidded the podium in her Olympic debut in the women’s freestyle cross-country skiing, placing fourth in the competition. China’s Eileen Gu won the gold medal with a total score of 188.25, while France’s Tess Ledeux won the silver medal with a score of 187.50. Mathilde Gremaud of Switzerland took bronze with a score of 112.50, beating Oldham’s score of 178.00.

Super G for men

Toronto’s Jack Crawford was the fastest Canadian in the men’s super-G race at the Beijing Olympics on Tuesday, finishing sixth in the event. Matthias Mayer of Austria took gold in one minute 19.94 seconds to successfully defend his Olympic title, while Ryan Cochran-Siegle of the United States took silver with a score of 1:19.98 and Aamodt Aleksander Kilde of Austria Norway won bronze with a score of 1: 20.36.

Trevor Philp of Calgary was 10th in a time of 1:21.34. Canadian teammates Broderick Thompson and Brodie Seger did not finish the race.

Hockey

Canada’s women’s hockey team still performed flawlessly in Beijing after beating the US opponent 4-2. Brianne Jenner scored twice and captain Marie-Philip Poulin scored on the penalty spot. Jamie Lee Rattray also put the ball in the net while goalkeeper Ann-Renee Desbiens saved 51 shots.

Canada ended the round-robin competition on Group A with a 4-0 record.

Skating

Canadian figure skater Keegan Messing came in at 9th after the men’s short program. Messing competed just a day after arriving late in Beijing due to a positive COVID-19 test. American Nathan Chen finished first with a world record score of 113.97 points. Japan’s Yuma Kagiyama (108.12) and Shoma Uno (105.90) ​​came in second and third, respectively.

The men’s freestyle skating will take place on Thursday morning Beijing time.
