Witcher: Blood Origin’s ile is a “Child Soldier, bred for war”, Star Reveals

This Christmas, there’s a new Witcher series released on Netflix. Titled Witcher: Blood Origin, the four-episode indie series follows the creation of the first Witcher – a thousand years before Geralt appeared and talked about slaying monsters. In a new video for the upcoming show, we get to know a little more about one of the show’s main characters, Èile.

Taking on the role of The Lark–Èile–is Sophia Brown (Giri/Haji, The Capture). Blood Origin follows her and a group of heroes battling the forces of evil. In a new video about the series, which you can watch below, Brown explains her character’s connection to music and combat.

“Èile is from the Raven Clan,” Brown said. “She was a child soldier, raised for war. She was raised by a sword master, Scian. And Scian introduced her to music. Music was essential to her, to share stories, bring relief, joy and strength to people. Her name is also The Lark.”

“She regrets leaving her family and her lineage. She feels ashamed for not being the person the people she loves want her to be. She is looking for clarity, and It’s a journey of self-discovery that we must continue.”

All episodes of Witcher: Blood Origin will be released on Netflix on December 25. Witcher writer and producer Declan De Barra is the creator of the new series. And in addition to Brown, the show also stars Michaelle Yeoh — as the previously mentioned Scian — Nathaniel Curtis, Lenny Henry, Dylan Moran, Zach Wyatt, Laurence O’Fuarain, Francesca Mills, and Huw Novelli. The show also features fan-favorite Minnie Driver and Joey Batey, returning as Jaskier.

And while the Witcher series is based on a series of novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, fans are clamoring for more games and one coming soon. It was announced in November that CD Projekt Red is developing a remake of 2007’s The Witcher game. The new game will be open world and made in Unreal Engine 5. And of course, Witcher 3 will get the next generation upgrade on December 14 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. So you can play as Geralt again, defeating the pub owners in Gwent, instead of stopping monsters from terrorizing the towns.
