Woman Eau Claire finds hundreds of four-leaf clovers, intends to set a new world record

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -Listen to find, but only luck.

“As soon as you see it, you know,” laughs Betina Reich, who has been finding a four-leaf clover since she was 10 years old.

“I didn’t even know what it was, because I thought it was weird and I plucked it and I remember my friend told me oh it’s a four leaf clover, you’re so lucky!” Reich recalled.

And since then, she’s kept finding them, “Or should I say they found me if anything,” says Reich.

But it wasn’t until COVID-19 hit her target that she had more time to hone her skills.

“Every day, we go out, go for a walk to keep ourselves busy and active,” says Reich.

It starts small, by trying to find a 4 leaf in 10 consecutive days. “That was my goal and then those 10 grew to 20, 50, 100 and 112.

But it didn’t stop there, in 2021, she knew she could get lucky.

“These are all the clover leaves I found between March 22, 2021 and December 4,” says Reich.

Before she knew it, she spent 258 days plucking and preserving her findings, documenting every step on social media.

And now she is applying to put her collection into the hands of Guinness, that is, Guinness World Records.

“I am one of those kids who always rush to the library to see the latest Guinness book, and the thought of my kids seeing it and me being in it makes me so happy,” says Reich.

Before you ask, it’s true that Reich is Irish, but only one percent she says. “This is one percent,” Reich laughed.

For luck? Reich likes to grow his own crops. “Four-leaf clovers are unlucky, it is those who take the time to find them that are lucky.” Reich liked to grow his own crops.

There is now a world record holder for biggest collection four-leaf clovers, but no records were set for consecutive days of four-leaf clovers, a potential setback for the Reich.

To create a new category, a Guinness-certified judge needs to come in person and certify the record, which can be expensive.

If you’d like to help Reich raise funds for her profile to be authorized, you can do so here.

Reich hopes to start weeding the clover once the snow melts in Eau Claire, and you can follow her progress on her social media accounts: Tiktok and YouTube.
