Woman narrowly survives trying to rob a car and shoot at Freret St.
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A woman is sitting in her car in Freret and Jena St. waiting to prepare dinner for the family, two women pulled into an SUV and asked her to hand over the keys. She dropped it, and shots were fired.
It happened around 8 p.m. Thursday. The woman, who did not want to speak but was provided with pictures and surveillance video by her husband of what happened, pulled over to wait for her dinner to be ready for pickup at Ancora Pizzeria.
As she was in the car, a dark SUV pulled up across Jena St. Two women jumped out of the passenger car.
Surveillance video shows the women approaching the victim’s 2018 Mercedes SUV from both sides.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, one of the suspects told the woman to open the door.
She drove it into the driveway, and hit the gas. According to NOPD, she heard at least two gunshots.
Photos provided by her husband show the extent of the damage. At least three windows of her SUV were shot out, and one of the bullets even penetrated her driver’s seat.
Luckily, she dodged when accelerating. This move most likely saved her life.
People who spoke to Fox 8 in the area said it was unfortunate, but the crime didn’t surprise them.
Local Minister Reggie Cummings said: “I am praying for my city. “I think it’s horrible. I mean the crime here just got out of hand. Something was done.”
The NOPD had responded to a separate attempted assault in Uptown about 30 minutes earlier. The suspects are described as two black women in a dark SUV, but NOPD has not confirmed whether the two incidents are related.
