Woman wakes up under rubble after the ceiling of her apartment falls

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A woman in Kansas City, Missouri, was lucky to escape serious injuries when the ceiling above her fell.

It happened at Parade Park Homes near 18 & Vine.

Ageelah Gant said: “I just heard this sound, like a rumble.

That sounds like a disaster just seconds away. Then it did. In the dark at 3 a.m. Friday, Ageelah awoke buried under a pile of debris.

“I was shocked,” she said. “I was shocked. Like, what’s going on?”

Like, “What happened?” That’s her entire ceiling.

Shocked, scared and confused, she tries to find her phone.

“I called my mom and I said, ‘Urgent! Emergency situation! Hurry up! Hurry up! ‘ said Ageelah.

Luckily, she escaped with minor injuries. However, Ageelah says it could be even worse.

Ageelah said: “I have sickle cell anemia and I just had hip surgery in November.

She added that it didn’t have to happen in the first place.

“For months, months and months,” Ageelah said. “It leaked at two different points in my room.”

Calls to apartment management seem to fall on deaf ears.

“I told them about it and told them about it and told them about it,” Ageelah said. “’Oh, all right, we’ll put a tarp on it.’ “OK, we’ll do this, we’ll do it.”

No canvas, no patches, and no fixes. Ageelah says every storm becomes a test of her faith.

“Every time it rains, I just say, ‘Please God, please God, let it be a light rain. Just a little bit, just a little bit,” said Ageelah.

Leaks continue and recently, Ageelah noticed something new.

“There was a line, like, on my ceiling,” she said. “So when I went back upstairs last night, the line was incredibly long. So I said, ‘Oh my gosh. Oh my God.'”

Now the line is a giant hole.

“I didn’t know it would do this,” she said. “I have no clue. It could have been and should have been prevented. No one has to live like this. No one has to deal with this or go through this. Nobody.”

Ageelah and her family are currently looking for an attorney.

She said she knows other tenants who have had problems. The KCTV5 camera detected a roof with a blue tarp across from Ageelah’s unit.

KCTV5 contacted Parade Park Homes management and we were told: “No comment available”.
