World Cup is about to start Tplus streaming service – The Hollywood Reporter

Telemundo is no stranger to video streaming. It has been around for about a decade, often as a producer of content for other services.

This year, however, the Spanish-language media company owned by NBCUniversal is planning a new streaming push, with a new set of streaming content and brands that it will fully control. control. Those launches include the previously announced Tplus, but also a new 24-hour news streaming service called Noticias Telemundo Ahora, which will launch in partnership with NBC News Now, the broadcast service. NBC News Group’s free online streaming.

That’s all Telemundo Enterprises President Beau Ferrari lays out as a strategy to “maximum serve Hispanics when streaming.” That includes people young and old, those who speak Spanish and those who are multilingual, those who cut the cord and wind it, but also those who still watch linear television.

“The opportunity for Spaniards is greater than ever, our focus is on how every company in the US needs to tap into this population segment to future-proof their business,” Ferrari said. The Hollywood Reporter.

At the heart of the push is Tplus, a new entertainment brand that will include both English and Spanish ticket prices and stream in Peacock, NBCUniversal’s corporate streaming service. Ferrari says that Telemundo will use the 2022 FIFA World Cup as a launch pad for Tplus, with all matches set to be streamed on the service, along with studio shows, highlights and analysis. Bet that consumers watching football will focus on dramas, reality shows and TV shows available on Tplus.

“The launch will take place around the World Cup, so we wanted to use the biggest sporting event in the world to warm up Tplus,” said Ferrari. “BILLIONthe fact that we have decades of experience in streaming many things, and now using the World Cup to participate in that on a larger scale, we feel like we’re taking advantage of all Our franchise, all our property. ”

The company has also ordered a series of originals for the streaming brand, with Ferrari shaping the projects as “highly complementary” to its linear business. Projects include document series Reggaeton’s Story (wt), produced by Daddy Yankee; Keep this to yourselfa serial killer television series produced by actor/producer Wilmer Valderrama; 90 mins, a football-focused series; and crime thrillers Leopard skinwill star Carla Gugino, Ana De La Reguera and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Telemundo also has several projects in development for Tplus, including a docuseries Chicano Squad; reality dating series Love is relative (from the makers of 90 days fiancée); and document soap Viva Houston (wt).

Tplus will launch in an increasingly crowded market, with Univision set to launch its ViX+ global streaming service later this year. But while Univision is aiming for a Spanish-only global launch, Telemundo is aiming for a more multilingual US audience and bets its parent company can help drive growth. there.

While streaming is a hot topic, Ferrari is careful to admit that the broadcast network remains “our core business” and adds that “we are looking to increase our investment invests in entertainment, sports, news, major franchises… and then complements that with a larger presence in partnership with Peacock on Tplus, and also deals Greater partnership with NBCUniversal’s news and sports teams. ”

And so Telemundo is also launching a full network-centric content blocking facility. The program includes live events (most notably the People’s Choice Latin Music Awards, due out next year), sports, and of course TV series and reality shows.

Projects include the third season of one of its top shows, La Reina del Sur; a new part of one of the network’s longest running chains El Senor de los Cielos; series of biographies El Rey: Vicente Fernandez; movie El Conde (based on Alexander Dumas’ Count of Monte Cristo); Maria: La Mexicana (based on the novel by Sergio Almazan Acuérdate Maria); splash Culpable o Inocente; anthology series El Doctor de los Milagro; and drama La Mujer de Mi Vida.

And the network has ordered a number of series with no description yet, including Bravo’s celebrity-driven spin-off. Top Chef franchise is called VIP Top Chef; and new seasons of La Casa de los Famosos and Exatlon Estados Unidos.

Ferrari adds: “We already scale with our core Telemundo broadcast network, as well as scale with Peacock in reaching the entire rapidly growing Hispanic community. hey, we consider them highly complementary. “We do it for Hispanic Americans, we are focused on creating content for this community, we understand the audience better than anyone, their tastes, their preferences. ”
