Chris Dobey said Gary Anderson’s words hurt him before he won over the two-time world champion in the third round at Alexandra Palace.
Dobey reached the round of 16 of the PDC World Championship for the fourth time after a 4-1 win over Anderson on Wednesday afternoon and will now face Rob Cross or Mervyn King next.
Speaking later, Dobey revealed Anderson had “annoyed” him but did not specify what the Scottish player – the 2015 and 2016 world champion – had said.

Dobey said Sports sky: “Gary said something to us during the last break and I didn’t like it. It annoyed me and there’s no way he won the game after that.
“I went out on the field and tried to forget about it. He’s a guy in the class, everyone knows that, but I don’t agree with what he says. I have a job and I’m sure that. I will win this game.”
“It’s a big win, Gary is a boy in his class, one of the big names in darts and has been around for a long time so this is a big win. I never gave up. I am such a person, always fighting to the end. I’m happy to win.”
Anderson won the first game against Dobey but then lost the next four games
Talking to reporters, Dobey added: “After what was said on stage, you start thinking about things but I came out to do one thing and finished it. I don’t know if he was playing. brainstorming game or not, but I’m the winner. Who’s the winner?” care?!

‘Dobey gave a complete performance’
Dobey lost the first set 3-0 as Anderson averaged around 115, and would have been 2-0 down in the sets if his opponent hadn’t wobbled in his doubles. .
However, ‘Hollywood’ has since recovered and will now aim to reach the quarterfinals of the World Championships for the first time after being knocked out in the round of 16 by Anderson in 2019, Glenn Durrant in 2020 and Luke Humphries in 2022.
