Wyze Watch review: Is the $39.98 smartwatch any good?

Wyze is a popular smart home technology company and our top pick for smart plug, smart light bulb and smart scale. So you can give us an attractive color when we get a chance to evaluate its brow lift $39.98 Wyze Watches.

While it might look uncanny like the Apple Watch and incorporate a collection of fitness features, smartphone notifications, and more – the Wyze Watch is specifically focused on controlling devices. suffer from the company’s own smart family.

We’ve been using the Wyze Watch for about a week, and finally feel like we can answer the burning question: Is this $40 smartwatch worth revisiting?

Smartwatch $39.98

While it might look uncanny like the Apple Watch and incorporate a collection of fitness features, smartphone notifications, and more – the Wyze Watch is specifically focused on controlling devices. suffer from the company’s own smart family.

Who, what and how?

Who is this for: Wyze watches are best suited for people who use many of the brand’s other products and who want to control them from the wrist.

What you need to know: This watch is great at only three things: controlling your smart home, reading your heart rate, and sending notifications. Many of the usual smartwatch features like answering phone calls, listening to music, and tracking various workouts are simply lacking on this device.

How does this compare: Priced at $39.98, you wouldn’t expect the Wyze Watch to be as equipped or capable as a Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch, but it also lacks similarly priced alternatives like Amazfit Bip S Lite and Wyze’s own Wyze Band. There’s a lot of features missing, thanks to the super low price, and you’ll find more for your money elsewhere.

In terms of design, the Wyze Watch looks a lot more expensive than $40 — and pretty much the same as the Apple Watch. It has a sturdy aluminum case and overall feels premium, while the overall construction is lightweight. It comes with a standard black silicone band, although it is easily replaceable with any 22mm strap.

The Wyze Watch Available in two sizes: 44mm and 47mm. Currently, only the 47mm is on sale and that is the one we reviewed for this review. We reviewed the 47mm Wyze Watch, although it also measures 44mm. The larger size feels good on our wrists, though it may not be for everyone.

As for the other physical features, you’ll find a single button on the right side of the watch to control the interface and power on the device. The bottom of the watch has a blood oxygen monitor and heart rate sensor, as well as magnetic charging pins.

Surprisingly, the Wyze has an IP68 rating, which protects it from accidental stains and splashes of water. This translates into very good protection from showers and windy beach walks. The 1.75-inch screen is easy to see in bright sunlight, though it’s noticeably dimmer in low light. And it’s important to note that there’s no always-on display mode and waking the screen up with a swipe of your wrist is unreliable – meaning we often found ourselves tapping the screen to turn it on. it’s up.

Like the way Apple Watch deeply related to the Apple ecosystem, Wyze Watch the same goes for the parent company’s various accessories and applications.

To set up the watch, you use the Wyze app on Android or iOS – it’s a simple and straightforward process. From there, you can customize the watch face with one of the many built-in options, or create your own by combining photos from your library.

On the watch itself, you’ll find a dedicated app that lets you control your Wyze smart home products. This is where you pay for Wyze smart home devices, making it all the more convenient for you to control with the push of a button on your wrist.

The entire experience should feel familiar to any Wyze user, and that’s who the watch was ultimately designed for. If you have an extra $40 to spend, the Wyze Watch is a bargain and gives you easier access to smart home controls.

That being said, if you’re entering the market for a traditional smartwatch, this might not be the most obvious purchase.

One of the biggest disappointments of the Wyze Watch is the fitness features. We regularly track our workouts with our Apple Watch, and we quickly found that wasn’t the case with this option. The only exercise you can record is running, and since we didn’t, it didn’t help much.

We took a quick walk using the Wyze Watch’s track and compared it to Apple Watch Series 3 – the Wyze wearable told us we didn’t walk as far as the Apple Watch suggested, and it didn’t seem to record how many calories were burned or the number of steps taken. However, the heart rate is the same between the watches. That’s because it takes similar hardware to what’s found on more expensive smartwatches, then translates it into a reliable heart rate experience.

The blood oxygen meter seems to be working fine. We compared it to a Galaxy Watch 4and it gave us a reading of about 97.7%, which is close to what we get from Samsung watches. Obviously, this is a metric you’ll want to ignore as the Wyze Watch isn’t designed to be a medical device, but it’s a great feature nonetheless, especially on a watch. Such affordable watches.

You get some other health tracking features like sleep tracking, menstrual cycle tracking, and general step counting. These features are more like concessions than carefully crafted health trackers, and you should use them as such. If you want a smartwatch that prioritizes health, then the Wyze Watch is not for you.

General, Wyze Watch feel limited.

Yes, it has the ability to send notifications to your wrist and that is a key element found on almost every smartwatch on the market. However, you can’t act on them – like replying to messages or deleting emails. The watch will chime when you receive a phone call, but since there’s no microphone or speaker, you won’t be able to answer the watch on your wrist.

The watch does not provide memory for MP3s or is integrated with streaming music service integration, so music playback is not possible. Speaking of which, there’s no support for third-party apps, which means you’re stuck with pre-installed apps.

Luckily, there’s both iOS and Android support, and the experience is identical across both ecosystems.

The idea of buying one Smartwatch $39.98 from a reputable brand is an appealing one, but the Wyze Watch is designed for only a very niche audience: people who own a bunch of other Wyze products that they want to control from their wrists. me.

If what you are looking for is a cheap Apple Watch alternative or a cheap fitness tracker, you should consider alternatives like Amazfit Bip S Lite and Wyze’s own Wyze Band. However, if you’re comfortable with getting serious notifications on your wrist, a customizable device
watch face and all those smart home controls, you can find this watch to be a perfect fit – especially for the price.
