Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, has released the first progress report for Xiaomi Pilot Technology for Autonomous Driving. Xiaomi, in an official blog, introduced a brand new autonomous driving solution developed in-house called Pilot Technology. The company has committed to invest 3.3 billion yuan (nearly Rs 3,897 crore) in developing the first R&D phase of autonomous driving technology.
For the R&D team of the early stage, Xiaomi has hired more than 500 professionals from all over the world. Initially the company announced enter the smart electric vehicle segment in March 2021.
Jun, in disclosure, has also released a live road test video of its autonomous driving technology. The test video showcases the technology-assisted intelligent and safe driving approach in a variety of situations including turns, detours and continuous downhill driving. Pilot technology comes with advanced algorithms. It can handle a number of situations, as added to its comprehensive list.
Jun said, “Xiaomi autonomous driving technology adopts an all-in-one approach, and the project has made unexpected progress.
To focus on long-term industrial strategic capabilities, Xiaomi will invest an additional 2 billion yuan (nearly Rs. 2 crore). This will include more than ten upstream and downstream businesses in the autonomous driving sector. Under the management of enterprises, Xiaomi will be in charge of core sensors, core actuators, domain controllers, etc.
In the initial phase, Xiaomi Pilot Technology is working to build a test fleet of 140 vehicles.
This project will be Xiaomi’s attempt to adopt a holistic approach developed by self-developed autonomous driving technology, covering all core areas. With this, autonomous driving algorithms will quickly be iterative based on user needs.
