Yankees GM favors the short-distance free agent class, believes the internal battle will take place

The New York Yankees have a laundry list of positions to add now that freelance agency has begun. With Aaron JudgeAndrew Benintendi, Anthony Rizzo and others now on the market, suddenly there are so many holes in the roster that won 99 games and the American League East last season.

Above all, the team is always looking to improve, even when there are newcomers forming.

Cashman said the Yankees are currently looking to add a right-hand, left-hander and pitcher. https://t.co/TC7SR49GEC

Yankees GM Brian Cashman emphasized this, saying:

“Right now, we don’t have a right midfield, we don’t have a left midfield. Always want to improve our pitch. And I stated at a press conference in New York that we have some kids pushed in. yard. So I think there’s going to be a lot of exciting opportunities that can happen next spring.”

Cashman’s statements seem to imply that while the team has needs that will have to be addressed in free agency, the shortstop is not one of them.

Last year’s acquisition of Isaiah Kiner-Falefa did not go as the team had hoped, but he will likely be the starter again next season.

Otherwise, the Yankees have some young people future, a few of them contributed around the time and in the post-season, who could take on that work. That includes top leads Anthony Volpe, Oswaldo Cabrera and Oswald Peraza.

Cashman seems to believe they have the person they need for the position, which means they probably won’t go after Trea Turner, Dansby Swanson, Carlos Correa or Xander Bogaerts.

He mentioned that he is always open to improving the established positions of the players, so the possibility is not completely ruled out.

Who will be in the net of the Yankees next season?

Of the four possibilities, Peraza probably has the best chance of being the front-runner on Opening Day. He replaces Kiner-Falefa in this position and is a better defender than Cabrera.

Cabrera can play almost anywhere on the pitch, so he could be elsewhere. Volpe may not be ready for the major league by the time the season starts, which prompts Peraza to leave.

They could also sign a one-year contract like Jose Iglesias or Elvis Andrus, but that’s much less likely.
