Ye suspended from Twitter for swastika post, says Musk

Twitter suspended rapper Ye after he tweeted a swastika photo merged with Star of David.

This is the second time this year Ye has been suspended from the platform for objectionable posts.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk confirmed the suspension by responding to Ye’s post about an unflattering photo of Musk. Ye calls it his “last tweet”.

“I did my best. Even so, he broke our rules against inciting violence. The account will be suspended,” Musk tweeted.

Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has made a flurry of hateful comments in recent weeks. On Thursday, Ye praised Hitler in an interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

Ye’s comments got him suspended from social media platforms, his talent agency removed him, and companies like Adidas cut ties with him. The sportswear maker has also opened an investigation into his behaviour.

Ye was suspended from Twitter in early October after saying in a post that he would commit “the 3rd murder of a Jew.” His account was reinstated at the end of the month as soon as Musk took control of the company, but the billionaire tweeted that “Ye’s account was restored by Twitter prior to the acquisition. They did not consult. or notify me.”

Musk is under pressure to clean up Twitter after changes he made after buying the platform led to what monitoring groups say is an increase in racist, anti-Semitic statements. and other malicious statements. A top European Union official warned Musk this week that Twitter needs to do more to protect users from hate speech, misinformation and other harmful content. The tough new rule requires tech companies to better control their platforms, at the risk of hefty fines or even bans in the 27-nation bloc.

Ye offered to buy right-wing social media site Parler in October, but the company said this week that the deal fell through. At the time, Ye and Parlement Technologies, which owns Parler, said the acquisition would be complete in the last three months of the year. Price and other details were not disclosed.

“This decision was made in the interests of both parties in mid-November,” Parlement Technologies said in a statement Thursday. “Parler will continue to pursue future growth opportunities and platform growth for our vibrant community.”

Parler is a small platform in the emerging space of right-wing, far-right and liberal social apps that promises little or no content moderation to remove hate speech, racism, and disinformation. misinformation, along with other objectionable content. No site has come close to mainstream status.

Parler launched in August 2018 but didn’t start operating until 2020. It was decommissioned in January 2021 due to its involvement in the deadly uprising at the US Capitol earlier that month. A month after the attack, Parler announced it was relaunching, but did not return to Google Play until September this year.
