Before NBC’s Live Musical Event Annie Live!, which airs on December 2, we’ve rounded up the actresses who have taken on the iconic redhead role over the years. The future looks bright for the newcomer Celina Smith– who landed the role after a nationwide search – as the former Annies went on to win Tonys, Emmys and even make television history.
Smith, 12, recalls on the show E! News’ Daily Pops on October 6 on first hearing, she got the lead role. “Like, you could swear there’s a kangaroo in the house or something. That was amazing and it was probably one of the best moments of my life.”
Smith stars opposite an all-star cast that includes Taraji P. Henson as the orphanage’s villain, Miss Hannigan, Harry Connick Jr. like billionaire Sir Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks, Nicole Scherzinger as Warbucks’ secretary, Grace and Tituss Burgess in the role of Rooster.
