Two men believed to have shot and killed rapper Young Dolph last year hit the streets on Tuesday, authorities said.

Justin Johnson, 23, was arrested in Indiana on charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder and burglary. He has declared his innocence and promised to execute himself on Monday on his Instagram profile, but failed to live up to his pledge.

On the same day, Cornelius Smith, 32, was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, unauthorized use of a weapon and theft of related property. to the murder.

Smith was arrested last month on a wanted warrant for auto theft involving a getaway car used after the alleged murder, a white Mercedes-Benz sedan. He is being held without bail. Police believe the car was stolen on November 10, a week before the shooting. Authorities recovered it three days later.

Young Dolph, legal name Adolph Thornton Jr., was was shot dead in Memphis on November 17 at midday while visiting one of his favorite cookie shops, Makeda’s Butter Cookies. He is 36 years old.

Johnson used the accusations against him as a viral tweet, launching a new song amid the height of his notoriety rather than turning himself in to the police. He released “Track Hawk” on January 10, the same day he promised he would turn himself in.

The Shelby County District Attorney, where the two men are charged, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
