@RedmiIndia @manukumarjain @s_anuj Yesterday in the night my aunt died 😭, she is using Redmi 6A, she is sleeping and she keeps her phone close to her face and sometimes her phone explodes. It was a bad time for us. It’s a brand’s responsibility to support,” MD Talk YT tweeted.

Feedback from Xiaomi
Xiaomi responded to the tweet saying they were investigating the matter. “At Xiaomi India, the safety of our customers is of paramount importance and we take those matters very seriously. At this time, our team is trying to contact the affected family. and determine the cause of the incident. We are with the family during this difficult time and hope to support them in any way we can,” read the response tweet from the Xiaomi India support page.
The YouTuber has also asked the government and mobile manufacturers to implement strong safety standards for mobile phones so that such incidents can be remedied in the future. “And the victim’s family has asked the government/mobile manufacturers to implement strong safety standards and conduct thorough testing before releasing the phones so that people don’t suffer damage and lose their lives. @cmohry @jagograhakjago,” he wrote in another tweet.
It is unclear whether an FIR was filed in this case to determine the exact cause of death.
Not the first case of smartphones exploding
This is not the first time smartphones have exploded. Last year, a OnePlus Nord 2 user claimed that his phone exploded during a call causing serious damage to his face. In August 2021, the newly launched OnePlus Nord 2 is said to have exploded in a user’s sling bag while cycling. In 2019, a man in Andhra Pradesh claimed that his Redmi 9A phone exploded in his pocket.
