Zion Williamson ruled out for weeks as New Orleans Pelicans star suffers hamstring injury

Zion Williamson will be out for weeks with a hamstring injury in Tuesday night’s 120-111 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. The New Orleans Pelicans star was forced to leave the competition at the end of the third quarter after suffering an injury and failing to return to the field.

ESPN analyst Adrian Wojnarowski announced the news as he tweeted:

“New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson is expected to be out for weeks with a hamstring strain, sources told ESPN. Williamson underwent an MRI today.”

Williamson has struggled to stay healthy during his brief NBA career. Now in his fourth season, the once All-Star has played just 114 out of 263 potential games at this stage of his career. Williamson has been in 29 of the Pelicans’ 37 games this season and appeared en route to his second All-Star.

He is averaging 27.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.6 blocks per game. Williamson is shooting from 60.8%, 36.8% from 3-point range and 71.4% from the free-throw line.

Not sure whether New Orleans Pelicans will be able to weather the storm with both Zion Williamson and co-stars Brandon Ingram on the shelf. New Orleans is currently 23-14 and is just one game short of first place in the Western Conference.
