A 13-year-old basketball player in California is reportedly under investigation by police. Footage allegedly shows the teenager stomping on an opponent’s head during a recent game.

According to New York Post OfficeTumakbo United and Payton’s Place youth basketball teams faced off at Alameda College on Sunday, July 21.

In footage captured by TMZThe victim was seen catching the ball from teammate Tumakbo. His age has not been made public.

A rival from Payton’s Place is then seen knocking him to the ground. He appears to be trying to steal the basketball. A scuffle ensues when the 13-year-old Payton’s Place member walks up to the Tumakbo player, picks him up by the leg, and stomps on him.

In response, several players, referees and a man who appeared to be the coach stormed the field to chase the 13-year-old boy off the field.

What happened to the victim after the incident?

According to sources, the victim’s mother, Eva Guingab, spoke to reporters after the incident.

“He was lying on the floor, and this kid came and stomped on him and on his head,” Guingab is said to have explained. “You could see his shoe size on his face. My son got a concussion the first time he played basketball.”

The paper also obtained a side-view photo of the boy, which showed “a clear shoe print running from his neck to the top of his head.” Guingab also told the report that her son was “being treated for a concussion” and had headaches.

“I think everyone was shocked,” Tumakbo coach Michael Tolentino reportedly explained. “I think we all went out and went to the other team’s coach and said, ‘What just happened? What’s going on?’”

The 13-year-old’s family are said to be defending his actions.

The family added that since the incident went viral, the child has been bullied online by adults.

Meanwhile, the Payton’s Place team released a statement about the incident via Instagram.

“There is a video circulating from one of our team’s matches over the weekend. Unfortunately, the video is not a positive representation of our team or our values,” the statement read. “The behavior exhibited by our players is unacceptable and is being taken seriously. We do not tolerate violence. Our players are expected to conduct themselves with integrity on and off the field. Both teams are working together to resolve this issue.”

In addition to the joint efforts of the teams, Guingabs is said to have filed a police report with the Alameda Police Department. The department is said to be investigating the incident and the Alameda County District Attorney will then decide whether to file charges.

“If we don’t say anything now, this kid is going to think it’s okay to do this because he’s young,” Guingab is said to have explained. “He thinks it’s okay to walk away from this situation, and it’s not okay.”
