Create a Canvas

You can create all kinds of documents with Slack Canvases.

Open Slack on web or desktop, click Than link on the left, then select Canvas: You can then create a new document inside Slack, incorporating text, images, links to other areas of Slack, attachments, etc. Just like integrating Google Docs or Notion into Slack, you can use Canvas in a variety of ways.

At the most basic level, you just need to jot down some notes that you need to refer to. If you’re going on vacation and need to leave instructions for how things will work while you’re away, you can save those instructions inside a Canvas document instead of leaving them in a channel or thread.

However, with the ability to add rich media and other components, you can easily upgrade your Canvas to create team newsletters, product briefs, or technical documentation. Sharing, tagging, and collaboration tools are built into Slack Canvas, meaning you can easily grant editing access to others on your team so you can work together.

There is one Canvas button in the upper right corner of Slack channels and Slack chats, giving you even more ways to use this feature. For example, you can use these Canvases to jot down important notes from a conversation or to create a checklist document that everyone in a particular channel can refer to.
