7 Non-Travel Amex Platinum Benefits You Should Be Using

The Platinum Card® from American Express is a TPG favorite. We love the travel perks we get — like comprehensive airport lounge access, hotel and airline fee credits, and travel protection.

But for all the reasons that make traveling easier, the Amex Platinum is more than just a travel card. Card members can earn more than $1,500 in statement credits—many of which are not travel-related—and enjoy a variety of purchase protections that can help justify the card’s $695 annual fee (see prices and fees) even for those who travel less.

Let’s take a look at some of the non-travel benefits that make this card still worth keeping in your wallet.

$300 Equinox Credit

Equinox is a chain of high-end gyms in the US, Canada and London. When you pay with your Amex Platinum Card, you’ll get up to $300 in annual statement credits toward select Equinox memberships or a digital subscription to Equinox+ (an on-demand fitness app).

You must sign up. If you don’t live in a city with an Equinox gym, you’ll get the best price by using your credit to sign up for Equinox+ online, which is normally $39.99 per month.

$240 Digital Entertainment Credit

The Amex Platinum card offers up to $20 in monthly statement credits for select digital entertainment services. These include Peacock, Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+—or the Disney Bundle (which includes all three), The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. If you already use any of these services, this is a nice perk. Sign-up required.

Uber Cash

Amex Platinum cardholders get $15 in Uber statement credits each month, plus an additional $20 in December. The Amex Platinum card must be added to the Uber app to receive the benefit.

Amex also has Global Diet Access Program powered by Resy, and card members enjoy exclusive access to some of the world’s most sought-after restaurants. You can also book celebrity chef dinners, curated culinary experiences, online cooking classes, and pre-sale Resy events.

Saks Fifth Avenue Credit

Amex Platinum Saks Statement Credit Available as two statement credits of up to $50 per calendar year. The first credit is valid from January 1 to June 30 and the second credit is valid from July 1 to December 31.

Anything you buy from Saks will automatically trigger the credit. And if you use online shopping portal When you shop at Saks, you get double the benefits of your purchase.

Saks known for luxury clothing or accessories, you can still get everyday essentials at great prices, especially when there are sales. From scented candles to skin care products, you can complete your shopping list use Amex Platinum credit. Enrollment required to enjoy selected benefits.

Walmart + Credit

Walmart+ offers free shipping on hundreds of thousands of Walmart items with no minimum spend. (Grocery delivery requires a $35 minimum order.) Each month when you pay for your Walmart+ membership with an Amex Platinum, you’ll receive a statement credit of $12.95 plus applicable taxes toward your membership fee (subject to auto-renewal).

You also get 10 cents off a gallon of gas at select gas stations, including Exxon, Mobil, and Murphys. Plus, streamers can rejoice because a Walmart+ membership includes a free standard Paramount+ Membership. Registration required and Plus Up membership does not count towards this credit.

Purchases, returns and extended warranties

Many credit cards offer purchase protection and extended warranties, and are notable in tough economic times for the peace of mind they give cardholders.

With the Amex Platinum Card, you get purchase protection*, which covers purchases up to $10,000 per incident of damage, loss or theft. A $50,000 claim limit applies per card. Purchase protection is limited to 90 days from the date of purchase. This is great coverage in the event of loss, theft or accidental damage. Terms apply.

The Platinum Card also offers 90 days return protection**. If the retailer does not accept the return, Amex will refund the full purchase price up to $300 per item, excluding shipping and handling. This specific benefit is limited to $1,000 per calendar year.

Finally, the Amex Platinum extended warranty coverage* provides one-year comprehensive coverage for $10,000 per product and up to $50,000 per calendar year.
