Trump Allies Want Him to Act Normal for Once, Stop Associating with Crazies: Report

That’s a tall order, since crazy conspiracy theories, anti-Semitic attacks, misogynistic outbursts, and other crazy statements have long made up about 98 percent of what he says. Asking him to tone it down would be like asking Jeffrey Dahmer to stop eating human flesh. But they’re trying!

Politics report that earlier this month, major GOP donor Steve Wynn, Wynn, a longtime friend of the former president, told Trump that his recent talking points — including the completely false accusation that Haitian immigrants were eating cats and dogs in Springfield, Ohio — were deeply unhelpful and that Trump would be better off focusing on actual policy issues, according to people familiar with the conversation. Wynn’s views were said to be shared by more than a dozen Trump allies, who, according to Politico, “described the former president as coming to a crossroads — faced with the choice of continuing the missteps that have plagued his campaign for weeks or adopting a more measured approach aimed at appealing to a small group of undecided voters who could influence the outcome of the election.” (In a text message to the outlet, Wynn said that his description of the conversation with Trump was “inaccurate,” though he did not respond to requests for additional comment.)

Of course, ridiculous conspiracy theories involving immigrants kidnapping and eating people’s cats and dogs aren’t the only offensive, unfocused comments Trump has made recently. “Trump is at his strongest when he talks about what people care about most: the economy, immigration, crime, trade, the core Trump messages,” said Republican strategist David Urban “When he loses focus and goes off in different directions, it’s less helpful,” Harris told Politico. “Every day we don’t talk about those issues, we leave Harris untouched.”
