What to know if you’re staying at a hotel affected by Hurricane Milton


The Tampa Bay area and other areas of Florida’s Gulf Coast are preparing for the impact of Hurricane Milton.

Travelers with short-term plans to visit the area should monitor weather conditions and precautions when making upcoming reservations, as the developing storm is one of the strongest to hit Florida in a century.

TPG has reached out to each major hotel group regarding policies and closures ahead of Hurricane Milton scheduled to make landfall this weekend. If you are making reservations for a hotel located in the expected path of the storm, call the hotel in advance for property-specific information about potential closures or service disruptions.

According to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ office, Florida officials have also worked with the hotel industry to waive or relax any no-pet policies so that those evacuating after Hurricane Milton can bring their pets. their pets safely to hotels across the state.

Hilton

“Hilton is closely monitoring Hurricane Milton with the safety and security of our guests and Team Members our top priority,” a Hilton spokesperson said. “Hilton properties in the expected path of the storm are implementing storm preparedness plans and emergency procedures, and remaining in close contact with local authorities and Travel partners. For guests whose travel plans may be affected by Hurricane Milton, modification and cancellation penalties may be waived -HILTONS for the latest information on specific properties.”

IHG Hotels & Resorts

“As Hurricane Milton continues to progress, IHG continues to prioritize the safety and comfort of our customers and associates,” an IHG spokesperson told TPG via email. “While several IHG-branded properties along the Florida coast are closed due to mandatory regional evacuation notices (and will remain closed until hotel leaders and local authorities deemed safe to resume operations), other businesses will remain open to serve recovery workers and those seeking relief. and comfort.”

During the storm, IHG required all hotels in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina to welcome pets for free, regardless of standard policy. Hotels in these areas are also required to waive cancellation fees for guests who want to change their bookings.

IHG also encourages guests to contact the hotel directly to confirm reservations, property status and service availability.
