Zayn Malik & Louis Tomlinson pay tribute to Liam Payne

On Thursday, October 17, Malik posted on Instagram to share a throwback photo of him and Payne. In the photo, Malik is seen lying on Payne’s lap as Payne puts his hands on him. The couple appeared to be sleeping.

Additionally, Malik’s posts included a follow-up slide that contained a lengthy message he wrote in memory of his bandmate.

“Liam, I find myself talking out loud to you, hoping you can hear me, I can’t help but selfishly think we have a lot more conversations left in our lives. I have never had to thank you for supporting me through the most difficult times in my life,” Malik wrote. “…Even though you’re younger than me, you’re always more sensitive than me. You’re stubborn, stubborn, and don’t bother telling people when they’re wrong. Even though we faced each other a few times over this… I always secretly respected you for it.”

Malik explained that he “lost a brother” after Payne’s passing.

“…cannot explain what I would do to hug you one last time and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I love and respect you so much,” Malik wrote. “…there are no words that can justify or explain how I feel right now other than devastated…”

Also, Louis Tomlinson posted on Instagram at the same time to share his tribute to Payne. Tomlinson’s post included a photo of them standing next to each other on stage.

“I am extremely saddened as I write this but yesterday I lost a brother. Liam is someone I admire every day, a positive, funny and kind soul… Liam is an incredible song writer with a great sense of melody, we often talk about being together went back into the studio to try and recreate the songwriting chemistry we had built in the band. And for the record, in my opinion, Liam is the most important part of One Direction. Experience from a young age, impeccable voice, stage presence, gift for writing. The list goes on. Thank you for shaping us, Liam,” Tomlinson wrote.

Before concluding, Tomlinson shared a message for Payne.

“A message for you Liam if you’re listening,” he wrote. “I feel so lucky to have you in my life but I’m really struggling with the thought of saying goodbye. I’m so grateful that we’re even closer since we were a band, talking on the phone for hours, reminiscing about the thousands of wonderful memories we’ve had together is a luxury that I think I will be with you for life. I really wanted to stand on stage with you guys again but that was not possible…”

One Direction issued a joint statement, followed by Harry Styles

Furthermore, One Direction’s official Instagram account – which also includes band members Harry Styles and Niall Horan – released a Additional statement in response to Payne’s departure.

“We are completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. At some point and when everyone is able, there will be more to say,” written statement. “But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, whom we loved so much.”

The statement ended by affirming that the group will cherish their memories with Liam “forever.”

“For now, our thoughts are with his family, friends and those who loved him besides us. We will miss him terribly,” the statement added. “We love you Lam…”

Finally, the declaration was signed, “Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry.”

About 30 minutes later, Harry Styles posted on Instagram to share his tribute to Payne. Furthermore, Styles shared a photo of Payne sitting on stage along with a lengthy message.

Styles wrote: “I am truly saddened by Liam’s passing. “His greatest joy was making people happy, and it was an honor to be by his side as he did that… He was warm, supportive, and incredibly loving. The years we spent together will forever be the most cherished years of my life…”
