Elon Musk promised to give $1 million to someone every day until the election but there’s a catch

“So I have a surprise for you,” Elon Musk said with a grin to one event He is stored in Pennsylvania on Saturday, aiming to appeal to people in swing states early voting and give Donald Trump. “We will randomly give out a million dollars to people who sign petitions every day from now until the election.”

Only voters registered in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania or Wisconsin—main rotation state—can sign a petition to qualify for Musk’s election-related lottery.

“One of the challenges we faced was how to let people know about this petition,” Musk continued on Saturday. “Traditional media won’t cover it; not everyone is on X. So I thought, how do people know about it? I think this news is going to really fly.”

Musk’s comments were punctuated by a roaring reaction from the crowd.

The billionaire then presented a giant check with the word AMERICA PAC and two flags on top to the lucky winner of the day: John Dreher. Dreher emerged from the crowd, pumping his fist as he took the stage wearing a Make America Great Again hat.

“By the way, John doesn’t know so it’s okay anyway,” Musk said before asking if Dreher had anything to say.

“Thanks, Elon, this is great, I’m really excited,” he began. “I’ve been following you for 10 years, knew your profile 10 years ago and have been following ever since. Big fan.

The event in Pennsylvania was Musk’s third in as many days, confusing Trump and this new petition, while he raised concerns about what will happen if the former president does not won in just a few short weeks. Musk claimed – without clear evidence – that “if the Kamala machine wins” there will be widespread censorship and it will be “the last election.”

Some experts have questioned the legality of Musk’s stunt – with one call it “vote buying.”

“While it is possible that some of the other things Musk is doing have unclear legalities, this is clearly illegal,” Rick Hasenlaw professor at UCLA, wrote Saturday night on the Election Law Blog.
